I used an app called 5 calls, it will give you contact information for each of your representatives and a script for topics you want to talk about. It makes the process super simple.

Expand full comment

That’s a great app. Here’s the link: https://5calls.org

Expand full comment

Allows you to make five consecutive calls without having to look up numbers and dial each separately.

Expand full comment

Suggest you try not to sound like you are reading from a script as that does not come across as genuine. Use the info and change it to your own wording if possible.

I found it difficult not to curse. 🤣

Expand full comment

Curses away, babe—we don’t have to be nice when we’re being invaded.

Expand full comment

Same! It’s part of my daily routine

Expand full comment

Yep. It’s great. First on my list of “to do” and check it before the DC offices close at night. 💜

Sounds great, but 2 out of 3 of my reps have full mailboxes they don’t clear. Impossible to reach a human. Heather Cox Richardson wrote about the deluge of calls to Congress. So in my case, they’re basically unavailable.

Expand full comment

I’d say keep pestering them. If their mailboxes are full, then they’re definitely hearing how unhappy we are.

I’ve heard that the Capitol is getting 1600 calls a minute! Even if they don’t answer their phones, they know it’s happening.

Expand full comment

It's wise to be strategic with my time, energy and focus.

If their mailbox is full, they don't know they're getting my call.

Plenty of ways to make a difference.

Senator Hawley’s message was garbled so I told my representative to tell Harley’s staff to record a new outgoing message.

Expand full comment

If you look at Hawley's website, there is not a single word about unauthorized parties raiding government institutions and walking out with our sensitive information. Strange, considering he is among those who love to tout their supposed reverence for "the rule of law."

Try their local offices. I call all the time and get through more easily to the local offices within their states as opposed to their DC number.

Also, I don’t just call my Senators and Rep, but other states’ Senators and Reps. For instance, I recently called Dr. Cassidy of Louisiana’s line and told him how disappointed I was with a physician’s vote for RFK Jr. I don’t care that I’m note their constituent. They still need to hear how the other parts of the country feel.

Good luck!

I call my senators and representatives at every local office within the state and the DC office.

I’ve been more successful in calling their local offices.

Awesome!!👏🏻

You can send an email. Or even write an actual letter.

Expand full comment

Letters are scanned for anthrax, so it will be 6 weeks before they receive your letter.

Expand full comment

But they’ll be occupied scanning—and that’s a disruption too. 🙂

Haha. Good point

Go to their Facebook page and leave messages under their posts - they have blocked all social media responses and messages so go to FB posts and comment under each one

Yeah, I’d like to hear from anyone who got to speak to a real person at a republican office. I get nothing but a scrambled message….always.

Expand full comment

Wow. They’re working hard not to hear from us. But let’s keep shouting!

Expand full comment

Hi, I’ve spoken to my local republican’s staffer twice and John Thune’s staffer. The first time, the staffer decided to argue with me about Guantanamo Bay and Elon Musk’s having been vetted as a Space X contractor. So I researched his comments and called back the next day to point out reality. If you keep calling, it seems to help. I skip leaving voicemail and will resort to calling the WH switchboard so that someone else can get a call. Then I can express to that staffer that no one is clearing voicemails or answering phones.

Excellent intel! Love this strategy

I have talked to Senator Hawley’s staff. They are not the same staff person every call. One was rude. He snickered and snorted the entire call. I made sure he knew that I vote and I remember his January 6 activities.

Senator Schmidt’s staff was cordial and stated that they would definitely give the message to the Senator.

Representative Wagner’s staff was also cordial and did listen.

Expand full comment

Oh, did that little troll just get snippy with you? Smile sweetly, tilt your head like you’re just so confused, and purr, “Oh, I’m sorry, could you repeat your full name for me? And spell it—slowly.” Watch as their bravado crumbles like a stale cookie.

Only once, I did talk to a staff person for Rep Mary Miller-Big Red R, in DC.

Leave messages on their Facebook posts it’s the only thing that they have left open

Thanks, as an introvert (writer!) calls make me quake. But this is important and the scripts really help!

Expand full comment

Same, babe, same. =)

Expand full comment

If it helps, the scripts aren't super necessary. I asked my local government staffer if it helps to go into detail and she said (honestly in a very dear way) that it helps if you're an expert in that area, but mainly they just make a tally to pass on because otherwise the information is too overwhelming. She was very kind and informative, so it wasn't just me being brushed off. So if the key for you is shorter and to the point, feel free to leave off the longer explanations and just go for "oppose or support" etc.

Expand full comment

That is helpful to hear. I’d rather just state my dissent quickly and be gone!

Expand full comment

If their voice mail is full, that should be made public. It sends the message that they do not want to hear from their constituents.

Expand full comment

Oooo…very good point. Super petty, I love it! How do we get the message out?

Expand full comment

My default is to call. My senators' VMs are usually full IF the lines aren't busy. In that case I go to their contact pages and crank out a quick note. It takes more time than calling, but action is imperative so I make sure to make the time. I can usually catch my local Republican Congressperson at either his DC or local offices. My assumption is that his base is much smaller and so red that his MAGA constituents don't bother (or don't know how) to call in their support.

Expand full comment

Good work! Just remember Republicans have been mobilizing their followers for two decades. They’re very very good at calling their representatives. It’s the Democrats who have not mobilized in the same way and we have to do that now. So excellent work finding a way to pester them every single day.

Expand full comment

Voice mail boxes are all full. They leave them that way.

Expand full comment

Wouldn't it be great if they got flooded with letters, too? It'd take a few weeks for the first to get screened & reach them, but if we kept it up it would become a steady thing.

Hey Lady Libertie! Love your stuff. Have looked everywhere for your book and it’s sold out!! Do you know where I can get it or if there is a digital version? Thanks. 😊

Expand full comment

Thanks so much!

The book sold out! My publisher is already reprinting it, and it will be available again soon. I'll keep you posted.

(We chose not to publish on Amazon due to their censorship policies. Instead, we’re sticking with print—because a physical book can’t be deleted—and making it available directly from the printer.)

Could you maybe do a Nook book version?

I hope you'll reconsider. As someone with eye issues I need to be able to enlarge the text in my eReader. Or most of the time have my eReader read to me. Print doesn't work for me and many others.

Well, that’s a good point and something I didn’t think about. Let me see if I can figure something out for you.

The republican power brokers at the top want the federal government downsized AT ANY COST … especially they think this is a unique opportunity with no checks & balances … the power brokers won’t feel any pain …. THE ONLY WAY YOU’LL HURT THE POWER BROKERS … is a sustained economic boycott … democrats … stop spending/buying … their profits will drop … their stock will drop … THEN THEY WILL STOP THIS

Sometimes I can be a “jerk”. I don’t feel the need to be super polite and my current goal is to jangle their nerves they way they jangle mine constantly with their rude and endless shit. After I end the call I clearly and firmly say “Fuck Off”. Sending karma energy back to them.

I agree that calls are effective. However , I am from Massachusetts. Calling Elizabeth Warren felt like I was taking up her time unnecessarily since she is already fighting like a junk yard dog.

I feel split about this. I will find another way to continue the fight.

Agreed! Anyone who’s for us should get thanks. Maybe an email or a postcard?

You can always call to thank her and encourage her to stay in the fight!! She must get tired. 😘

NC here, both phones are full, no one is answering. Tillis posts everyday about his voting. Boasting. And my rep. Dan Rouser again submitted a bill to defund the DOE. They SUCK! One good thing is our State Government is Blue! Thanks to Dems in NC!

Love this! Thank you! One important addition: apparently these phone messages work best if you also ask to receive a response. This forces your congresspeople to acknowledge your message.

I believe citizens have a big role to play here. Aside from constant communication with our elected representatives, of both parties, I suggest a tax rebellion.

Adjust your tax withholding to ZERO. If you're going to owe taxes in April, don't file.

Starve his government of revenue. If we implement this plan en masse and all at once, they're screwed. They can't audit us all, and their take wouldn't be worth it if they tried to audit even a small percentage of us.

Make them either back down, or make them desperate enough to go after the high dollar tax cheats and corporations.

We need an official movement and a spokesperson, or spokespersons, to take our message to the airwaves everywhere.

Pick a date deadline, like March 15 or April 1st for Musk to be cut loose or we will starve Trump's government of revenue.

The threat alone might be enough to do the trick, especially since lots of Republicans hate Musk AND paying taxes....and Trump knows it.

A good number of them would say to themselves "If liberals aren't going to pay taxes, neither am I!!"

Expand full comment

If only this weren’t very very illegal: A mass tax rebellion is both illegal and ineffective. Willfully refusing to pay taxes violates federal law (26 U.S.C. § 7201), carries severe penalties, and could result in prosecution. The IRS has automated systems to detect non-filers and can seize assets, garnish wages, and impose heavy fines. Historically, tax protest movements have failed, with participants facing serious legal consequences. Additionally, the government collects revenue from multiple sources, so even widespread non-compliance wouldn’t significantly impact its operations.

A more effective and legal approach would be to use public pressure and economic strategies. Organizing mass petitions, targeted boycotts, and general strikes can create political and financial leverage without breaking the law. Individuals can also legally minimize tax liabilities by maximizing deductions and shifting investments into tax-advantaged accounts. Engaging in state-level resistance and pushing for legislative tax reforms are also viable alternatives. These methods allow for impactful activism without the risks of legal action.

Very helpful.

If. you’re not sure who your representative is, they will ask you for your state and zip code.

You’ll then be asked for the rep of your choice and will be connected to their office.

If they won't answer, show up at their office. Sit there all day until you see them or get thrown out. If they won't listen, make them uncomfortable.
